Filter sterilized carcass rinsate for recovery of <i>Salmonella</i> species with various concentrations of cetylpyridinium chloride

Controlling Salmonella in poultry processing continues to be important processors and consumers. Cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) has proven effective vitro controlling Salmonella. This study evaluated the recovery of after overnight storage 4°C filter-sterilized carcass rinsate containing CPC from 0.44 909 ppm (μg/mL). Ten serotypes (18 strains), which 6 are commonly isolated products, were grown Bacto-Tryptic Soy Broth at 37°C. Serial dilutions a CPC/propylene glycol solution prepared 24-well tissue culture plates rinsate. Approximately 107 cfu/mL each serotype was added appropriate wells. Inoculated stored 4°C. After storage, triplicate brilliant green agar with sulfapyridine (BGS) surface inoculated 10 μL contents for well, streaked isolation, incubated 37°C 24 h. Three replications conducted. The presence typical colonies on BGS recorded as growth verified through biochemical serological testing. Of chosen, Kentucky, Dublin, Enteritidis least resistant median minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) 14.22 μg/mL (range 3.55 56.88 μg/mL); S. Typhimurium demonstrated MIC 114.00 28.44 μg/mL). Residual potentially remaining attached or weep could alter is recovered rinse due different patterns during regulatory testing, potential more virulent strains not recovered.
